Grades 8 & 10 Tour BTEC

Students in Grades 8 & 10 toured Boonville Technical Educational Center (BTEC) on Thursday, February 2nd.  This trip is an opportunity for our Pilot Grove students to check out the BTEC programs available to them Junior & Senior year.  The Boonville Tech Center has utilized federal grant funds to provide a face lift to their facilities and even used those funds to expand their programs.  BTEC is an excellent opportunity for students to pair classroom knowledge with hands on experiences to better prepare them for post secondary careers.  Students often leave BTEC program with certifications and credentials well equipped to enter the workforce.

While on the tour, some of our own PG students were able to show off the programs they are in at BTEC and talk about the coursework.  Below, senior Emily Kammerich talks to visiting students about the Health Occupations program.  This is the first year Emily has attend BTEC but has learned so much and found her passion.  She has plans to pursue a career in the nursing field!

Above, senior Tate Rentel and junior Blake Gerke show off skills learned in the Automotive Technology courses they are taking at BTEC this year.  This is the first year Rentel and Gerke have attended BTEC and they are learning so much about consumer car maintenance and entry level technical skills.  Upon completion of their coursework students have the opportunity to earn Ford Automotive Career Exploration (ACE) Certifications.

Below our students had the opportunity to explore the Carpentry & Construction program.  This program offers students exploration in basic construction and carpentry skills.  Students can pursue more advanced techniques if they wish and can even participate in SkillsUSA.  Students completing this course will have the opportunity to earn the Career Connections Level 1 & 2 and OSHA 10 Certificates.
