5 PGHS Students Advance to State After Earning 2nd Place in Central Region Envirothon Competition.
On Wednesday, April 12th, 5 students loaded up early and set off to Runge Nature Center in Jefferson City Missouri to compete in the Central Region Envirothon Competition. Waylan Christy, Jefferson Day, Logan Goehman, Alec Schupp, and Hayden Sleeper worked together as a team all day and earned 2nd place out of 15 teams! Envirothon is a competition that tests students’ knowledge and skills in 6 different areas including soils, forestry, aquatic ecology, wildlife, current environmental issues, and oral presentation. These students have put in numerous hours of study and training during many early morning practices before school. Mr. Lorenz is extremely proud of the work they have put into this competition. These boys have helped redeem the reputation of Pilot Grove and made it a name to be proud of! The team received many compliments from other advisors and volunteers about their mature and respectful behavior and just how impressive they were overall.
